Tulsi (Indian Basil / Ocimum sanctum) is an aromatic plant with black stems and very small, purple flowers. It is related to the European basil, but its leaves are slightly darker and thinner and clearly notched at the edge.
The plant also known as "Holy Basil" is used in religious ceremonies in India to open the heart and mind to love and devotion. The shrub with the delicate leaves often stands at the entrances to houses and temples.
